Remember when Jarryd Hayne stunned the global sports world when he quit Australia professional rugby to join the San Francisco 49ers? And what about when he almost-spontaneously quit the National Football League to pursue his dream of representing his home country at the 2016 Rio Olympics? Unfortunately, the ‘Flying Fijian’ has once again hit a roadblock.

The sports star has been cut by the Fiji 7s team to participate in the ultimate competition of athletics in Brazil that will be taking place next month (August 5th-21st).

In a released statement, Hayne shared a little on his experience working up to the recent rejection.

HAYNE: “As much as I would have loved to go to Rio, I too knew I wasn’t ready yet. During my time with the team, I pushed my body above and beyond. I used all my experience as a professional athlete and have tried every day and in every way possible to make this team and make it better but unfortunately, time has been against me.”

Although we won’t be seeing the star play in the Olympics, we know that this isn’t the last that we will see of him on national sports television. What is next to come from the Hayne Plane? We wait in enthusiasm to see what he will pursue next!
