The 22nd Annual Tahiti Fete makes way unto the village of San Jose this weekend to continue the July-filled season of celebrating South Pacific culture. With the monumental success of the 4th Annual Island Reggae Festival just last weekend, the Tahiti Fete brings a novel perspective on Pacific Islander multiculturalism specifically within the islands of Tahiti.

Tahiti Fete has consistently been an international crowd-pleaser as it brings elite performers onto one stage for a three day extravaganza of heart, culture, and appreciation for Tahitian music and arts. This year the Tahiti Fete will begin at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose this Friday for a night of playful competition prior to the weekend festivities held at San Jose State University Event Center. Following Friday’s process of elimination, contenders who’ve made it to the next stage of dance pageantry will perform on Saturday in the large San Jose arena. Sunday’s exhibition and final competition will complete the Fete, with over 4,000 tickets already purchased for a sold-out arena. Winners of the solo and group competitions will win a cash prize as well as a chance to fly to Tahiti and perform alongside world renown island dancers.

Not only will Tahiti Fete provide a high calibre show for those attending, but also offers a chance for Tahiti Fete goers to interact and participate intimately with Tahitian culture! There will be drumming workshops and Haka tutorials for both men and women who want to learn about the history and technique of these ancient traditions. Special guest performers include the beautiful songstress, Madison Makanaokahaku Scott and several musical encounters with critically acclaimed dancers from Rapa Nui. And of course it isn’t a complete list of special features without the unsurpassable drink of choice – UCE JUICE – the Official Thirst Quencher for this years #TahitiFeteFever!
