Over the weekend, the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2015 inducted Samoan Dynasty’s very own Solofa Fatu Jr., popularly known as Rikishi. Duly noted, TheWhatitDo team held exclusive rights to the red carpet event as TWID Producer Elizabeth Lavulo was granted VIP all-access (plus amazing seats) to the sold-out ceremony at the Sapp Center in Santa Clara, California this past weekend.
The opening act of this years WWE mega-event were tag team WWE Champions ‘The Usos’ Jimmy and Jey Fatu introducing their Dad Rikishi to the stage. In attendance were the big names of the wrestling world like Hulk Hogan, Triple H., Shawn Michaels, Rick Flair (wooo!), the Undertaker, Kane, Daniel Bryan, and former California Governor Arnold ‘Terminator’ Schwarzenegger. And for heightened effect, I could not forget the strapping dream-eyed beau- ROMAN REIGNS and a cool Uso named DWAYNE ‘THE ROCK’ JOHNSON.
A WWE fan herself, Elizabeth Lavulo expressed the surrealness of sitting amongst her childhood favorite wrestlers. “I was really impressed because I sat amongst people that I grew up watching. Wrestling is something that every kid watches .. it’s our real life superheros .. there’s always a bad guy, there’s always a good guy. Every child has their favorites, and Rikishi was one of those favorites.”
Rikishi hails from a family of distinguished wrestlers. Starting with Hall of Fame (Class of 2008) pro-wrestler Chief Peter Maivia, then came Afa and Sika Anoa’i the ‘Head Shrinkers’, Yokozuna, the Tonga Kid, Umaga, The Rock, the Usos and now Roman Reigns. It was an evening where the World Wrestling Entertainment company recognized the family and their success in the sports entertainment industry.
Rikishi’s speech was powerful and left the audience in an emotional applause, branding the Samoan Dynasty as an official elite name in the wrestling world. The Class of 2015 recruit is now another member of the Samoan Dynasty that’s been inducted into fame along with other wrestling greats like Randy “Macho Man” Savage, Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Bushwhackers, Larry Zbyszko, Tatsumi Fujinami, Kevin Nash, and Alundra Blayze. It was a special night celebrated amongst family and friends and most importantly, the wrestling fans.
