After months of anticipation, AMC has finally confirmed their lead actor in the upcoming the Walking Dead spin-off series. Playing the role of Sean Cabrera, a divorced teacher, is Maori actor Cliff Curtis. You may be familiar with Curtis as Uncle Bully in Once Were Warriors, Paikea’s father in Whale Rider, and many more notable roles in movies like 10,000 BC, The Last Airbender, and Blow.

The show will be set within the same ‘Walking Dead’ universe, but focuses on the zombie outbreak within another location. The role of Sean Cabrera is presumably Latino, something that Curtis is no stranger to playing. In a recent interview with Slate, he was quoted saying, “I take the responsibility of playing another ethnicity very, very seriously and I promise myself and those people that I will represent them with as much dignity and integrity as I can muster. I’m not fooling around. I don’t want to make a fool of that cultural heritage. I represent them as I would represent my own.” Right on, Uncle Bully.

Though the project is still tightly under wraps, we are very excited to see Curtis take on a role surrounding the widely popular television series.
