Celebrities and designers alike have been tragically struck by the news of the passing of Oscar De La Renta, one of the most iconic fashion designers of our time. De La Renta passed away Monday, at the age of 82. Also known as the “Sultan of Suave”, he is a legend in his own right, having created countless designs for A-Listers for half a century.

Though he’s been around for years (going as far back as styling Jackie Kennedy), you may know him a little better by pop culture and celebrity references. He was one of Carrie Bradshaw’s favorites on Sex and the City, and helped put his infamous Manolo Blahnik shoes out there. He has been name-dropped in several songs, including ones by Nicki Minaj and Kanye West.

More significantly, De La Renta has dressed countless celebrities for their red carpet events including Beyonce, Kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey, and the list goes on. Many of these celebrities have taken to Twitter to share their grief over the passing of such an iconic and innovative designer. The fashion world definitely lost a prominent figure. He will truly be missed.
