As we slowly make our way through Spring, our minds wander to the sunsets of summer nights to come. Urban islanders around the globe long for a taste of paradise, and to solve this everlasting dilemma, we look to the sound of music. With the WhatItDo being a firm supporter of the Urban Island society, it seems only fitting to focus on a talented artist that hails from the island of Maui, Hawaii’s #1 female artist, Anuhea Jenkins.
Being a self taught guitarist and song writer, Anuhea has proven to the people that all it takes is a little faith. Upon the release of her debut album “Anuhea” in 2009, she rose to fame on the iTunes Pop and R&B charts, as well as taking #3 on the World/Reggae Billboard charts. Many have become familiar with her hit single ‘Simple Love Song’ and her cover of “Come Over Love.” The melodies of her music have been described as a blend of Pop, Reggae, and R&B. Lyrics of creativity and finesse allow Anuhea to display the overwhelming amount of raw talent she possesses. No matter when or where you are listening to Anuhea, her music caters to your mood by bringing you a sense of peace and tranquility through the sound of island beats and rhythms. We recommend the likes of Anuhea not only because she has rooted her music into her island culture, but mostly on the fact that her Twitter biography is ‘Keeping it real while maintaining the Aloha!’. Listen to Anuhea and support her effort of “maintaining the Aloha!”
The beginning of this month marked the kick-off of Anuhea’s North American tour, and her performances continue this weekend at SXSW (South by Southwest) in Austin, Texas. Instead of traveling back to the South Seas, check out the dates of her North American tour to see if this native Hawaiian is coming to a venue near your hale (home). WHAT. SHE. DO!
Enjoy! And most of all, Aloha!
Have a listen!
