Spread On The Cream Of Beat At Mezzanine SF

Entertainment, Events, Music 25 Nov 2011   »   by TheWhatItDo

Mezzanine SF was the place to be last night for the hottest old school Hip-Hop show known as Cream of Beat in San Francisco, CA. This show is produced by the Pirate DJ’s and has been running for over two decades. These city-by-the-bay DJs who have rocked the night life of San Francisco with their annual event have long been celebrating old school underground Hip-Hop and highlighting the hottest music artists that have hailed from the Bay. The Pirate DJs consist of DJ Ivan (Ivan Rodriguez), Rolando Ochoa aka Rolo 1-3 (The Rhythm Selecta), Eric Recinos (Mind Motion), and Dark Money (Michael Brown), who also owns an urban streetwear clothing store called True.

Kicking off the night we had different underground and radio DJs hop on the 1’s and 2’s to rock a sold out crowd and to build an off the hook atmosphere that could only be vibed and felt if you were present in the club. Nothing beats a Bay area party than to showcase mainstream artists who are natives to the city and have represented their sound on a worldwide scale. Opening up the party we had Oakland’s Souls Of Mischief tear the stage up with their unique lyricism and flow by performing their classic hits such as “From 93 Til Infinity.” The crowd went crazy singing along and jumping up and down in unison.

The headliner of the Cream of Beat show was the legendary Hip-Hop group Digital Underground from Oakland. As Shock G electrified the crowd with his high energy and stage presence, the crowd received him as if he descended from the Hip-Hop heavens. The atmosphere was awesome and the best part of the performance was his tribute to Tupac Shakur, who started with Digital Underground in his early days. Shock G invited Tupac’s boys to come out and perform with him the Rap star’s (Tupac’s) classics. You can see and feel the love and respect Shock G and his crew had for his homie (Tupac) that passed on. The show is a smooth blend of fly DJs, hot underground Hip-Hop artists, and an eclectic crowd of music lovers from all over the Bay. Everyone was there to have a great time and to immerse themselves in a rich Hip-Hop atmosphere that can only be experienced at a Cream of Beat event and that is definitely WhatItDo!
