You may recognize him from his fashion forward “illusion” hairstyles or heard him collaborating with some of the most popular artists in the game. But once you’ve experienced Reggae Artist: Beniton the Menace, you will never be the same!
Raised by his Jamaican parents in Queens, New York, his heritage was instilled in him and contributed to the shaping of his career in Reggae music. Beniton is well traveled between Jamaica and NYC and exposed to Reggae music by his stepfather, who was a respected Reggae DJ. Being influenced by him, Beniton became a DJ in High School and eventually built up his own respect. It eventually led him to begin free styling over instrumentals while on the 1’s and 2’s. This branded him as “a force to be reckoned with.” DJ Massive B of New York’s HOT 97FM noticed Beniton and put him on rotation and then BOOM! In a short time he gained a following and started getting gigs.
His music inspirations are definitely legends like Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Shaba Ranks, 2 Pac & Biggie Smalls. He has shared a stage with an exceptional caliber of artists like Beenie Man, Mary J Blije, UB40, and Kymani Marley. Today, Beniton has traveled the world, touring with Maxi Priest since 2007 and continues to perform throughout the U.S and internationally lyrically killin the game. “It’s a massive music,” says Beniton and is driven by the positivity this music inspires. His message is spiritual, organic and wants to deter fans from the often-negative perception it attracts.
“The Menace,” part of his name, came from Beniton’s very elusive performances those posses’ spectators to jump, gyrate and pound the walls. He definitely does not hold back and gives every performance 100% leaving everyone wanting more especially the ladies! Not just confined to the microphone, this talented performer is also a studio producer, plays piano by ear, and has his own label- Mad a Productions. He advises those interested in the industry to “find your nitch and really gauge how serious you are. The game is different from how you feel.”
