Poly Rock Royalty in a Hollywood high-class setting? The Kings were in the house – Common Kings that is – and they were rockin’ Rolling Stone LA last night with the beautiful and talented Miss India Benet! Located at the crossroads of the very famous Hollywood and Highland, Rolling Stone LA is saturated with elegance, sophistication, and music industry swag! It is the perfect place for audiences to get up close and personal with their favorite artists, and indeed many peoples’ favorites like Kevin McCall, Tyga, and Travie McCoy have graced the stage with their presence.
Common Kings Guitarist, Taumata Grey said, “We’ve heard so much about the venue but we’ve never actually been here so this is our first time and we’re excited – great crowd.” And Lead Singer, Jr King expressed, “It’s really exciting. We’re here and we’re ready!”
Urban Island Artists, Common Kings, have been on fire lately. Recently featured on IslandBeats.TV and climbing the popular Island Jam countdown 5 spots in just 1 week with their acoustic version of “Alcoholic,” getting poised and ready to go on tour in Hawaii with Anuhea, and writing and recording their debut album, the boys of Common Kings are ready for big things. About their up-coming album, Tautua Reed of Hi Rise Entertainment Group says, “It’s definitely a little different. It’s a pop feel, but true to our niche market, which is the reggae market, so we’re gonna have that live feel of R&B, Reggae, Pop—a little bit like Bruno Mars.” And Jr says, “It’s going to be a really exciting album with a variety of sounds. That’s what Common Kings is; it’s a fusion of all kinds of music.”
India Benet is no stranger to the music scene either. As the daughter of Grammy-nominated R&B artist, Eric Benet, India has been around music her whole life. She says, “I’ve been creating music for the past 5 years, my dad forced me to do a talent show when I was 14 and ever since then I’ve loved it,” and now she is, “in the studio experimenting with different styles trying to figure out what works for me.” Long-time friend and partner of Hi Rise Entertainment Group, Suzanne Hollingshead, introduced her to Common Kings and she says, “I love it, they’re so fun, we have a lot of fun, lots of jokes.”
The evening was full of eclectic artists showcasing their talents in a mixture of rap, hip hop, and rock, keeping the crowd moving all night. But the highlight of the evening was the Urban Island blend and combined efforts of Common Kings and India Benet. Together they sang a mix of original compositions and popular covers and closed out the night with C-Lo’s daughter, Sierra, gettin’ down to their cover of her daddy’s hit “F*** You!” As always, it was definitely a whatitdo night at Rolling Stone LA.
Watch for more Common Kings in the near future. Jr says, “We got a lot of gigs coming up and working with a lot of amazing artists like Anuhea, India Benet, and Alex Aiono. We’ve got an album coming up, so Common Kings is on the rise and we’re ready!” You can catch them at The Mint on Saturday, July 9th and make sure to follow both Common Kings and India Benet on Twitter for all of their latest updates.
