“I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters; Not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their bulls#*t. For those ten seconds or less, I’m free.” (Vin Diesel, Fast and The Furious) Mitsubishi’s Lancer Evolution 2011 makes me feel free and when I’m behind the wheel, nothing else matters. This car was engineered and built for high performance. It’s not a whip for the inexperienced driver for it is meant to be driven by the grown and sexy driver who can handle a sports car that is a beast on the road. Amateurs take notes because the Evo is not meant for rookies.

Why Drive the Lancer Evolution?

There are a few main reasons why you should drive the Lancer Evolution 2011. First, it has a 291 horsepower MIVEC engine which screams power when you step on the gas. Second, the RECARO sport seats are designed for ultimate comfort and ultimate speed. Not only are they sexy, they are also safe. The seats are designed to hug your body when you hug the curves! These fine leather beauties by themselves run about $2,000 a piece so make sure you don’t spill on them. And last, it has a Twin Clutch – Sportronic Shift Transmission, which in layman’s terms means power, control, and ease combined! As Urban Island Artist Young Dee Da Singer would call it, this “beautiful creation” seats five, gets 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, and starts at $33,995 ($41,735 fully loaded).

What’s Good in the Hood?

The true shine of the Lancer Evo is not found on the outside but under the hood with the turbocharged 4B11 Engine. It is a MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing Electronic Control System) engine which is the Mitsubishi version of a souped up VVT (Variable Valve Timing) engine. The Lancer Evolution takes the power and performance of a sports car to the next level. Also the TC-SST (Twin Clutch – Sportronic Shift Transmission) allows you to choose from three shift modes: normal, sport, and s-sport which allows you to shift smoothly with either the sequential shifter or magnesium paddle shifters.

How’s the Comfort?

The RECARO car seats are top gear in their class for performance. With built-in air bags, these seats have exceptional support while dipping corners and sharp turns and gripping the passenger, especially when driving in high gear. It also comes with a FUSE Hands-free link system which allows Bluetooth capabilities with a USB port for your entertainment needs and convenience. Did I mention that it comes laced with a Rockford Fosgate sound system and built-in speakers which bleed the bass out of the trunk? The advanced interior adds comfort while cruising in this high performance whip and is definitely a WhatItDo favorite!

What is the Safety and Warranty Like?

“Our rule of thumb: the higher the level of performance, the higher the level of safety. Not only is the Lancer Evolution engineered for strength in collisions, it’s actually engineered to avoid collisions altogether which we think is the best kind of safety there is,” says Mitsubishi Motors. This auto manufacturer wouldn’t spend so much time in creating such a high performance vehicle and not invest as much into making it one of the safest as well. The Lancer Evo comes standard with seven standard airbags that protect the driver and passengers, an Anti-Theft alarm system to keep your car safe, and an active stability control with ABS, which means the driver has control of all four tires, which helps prevent accidents. And last but not least is the warranty. “The warranty, like the rest of the Lancer Evolution, is exceptional for a car in this class. [We] feature a 5-year/60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty; a 3-year/36,000-mile, Bumper-to-Bumper New Vehicle Limited Warranty; a 7-year/100,000-mile Anti-Corrosion/Perforation Limited Warranty; and 5-year/Unlimited miles Roadside Assistance,” says Mitsubishimotors.com.

As Vin Diesel said in Fast and Furious, “Ask any racer, any real racer. It doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning’s winning.” Get behind the Lancer Evolution and you will not only win, but also have the ultimate experience. For all you consumers out there who are in the market to purchase a vehicle which is road-ready and fast and furious, the Mitsubishi Lancer is WhatItDo!
